Every August, the Columbia River near Astoria, Oregon comes alive as fall Chinook salmon begin their migration from the Pacific Ocean into the Columbia River. Known as the Buoy 10 fishery, this is one of the most popular and exciting salmon fisheries in the Pacific Northwest.

What makes Astoria special is the opportunity to target King Salmon that have only recently entered the Columbia River from the ocean. These are bright, hard-fighting fish in excellent condition, and every bite has the potential to be a trophy Columbia River Chinook.

Plughoff Outfitters spends August fishing the lower Columbia around Astoria and the Buoy 10 area before following the fall Chinook migration upriver later in the season.

Fishing Buoy 10 successfully means staying on top of constantly changing conditions. Tides, currents, water temperature and the movement of salmon can change where and how we fish throughout the day.

We spend our season following Columbia River salmon and put in the time to stay on the fish. Depending on conditions, our Astoria trips may take us throughout the lower Columbia River as we look for the best opportunity to put our clients on quality King Salmon.

All fishing gear and tackle are provided, and fish cleaning and bags are included after the trip. Whether you've salmon fished your entire life or have never held a fishing rod, you're welcome on the boat.

There aren't many places that combine great salmon fishing with a destination quite like Astoria and the Oregon Coast.

An early morning on the lower Columbia chasing King Salmon is an experience in itself, but Astoria also makes these trips easy to turn into a weekend or family getaway. Restaurants, breweries, beaches and the towns along the North Oregon and Southwest Washington coast give you plenty to do after your day on the water.

What to Bring on Your Astoria Salmon Trip

We provide the boat, rods, reels, tackle and fishing equipment needed for the day. You'll want to bring a valid fishing license, food and drinks, and clothing appropriate for the weather.

Rain gear and warm layers are highly recommended in Astoria. Even during August, mornings on the lower Columbia can be cool, windy and wet.

Bring a cooler for transporting your catch home. Fish cleaning and bags are provided after your trip.
